BBC presenter Kawser Quamer’s colleague asked a harmless question live on TV about their weekend plans. Unfortunately, she answered truthfully – and revealed that she was going to her niece’s surprise party.

The clip of a BBC presenter’s mishap is currently going viral on the internet. BBC Weather’s Kawser Quamer had just finished her contribution to North West Tonight when she joined her colleague Annabel Tiffin on the sofa. The two women wanted to casually bridge the time until the end of the show. While the music was already playing, Tiffin asked, “So, what are you doing this weekend? Anything exciting?”

“My niece’s surprise party,” Quamer replied cheerfully, not realizing she had just revealed the surprise – while they were live on air. “Oh, how beautiful,” Tiffin countered, noting, “But it’s no surprise when she sees this.”

At that moment the penny dropped for Quamer: “Oh my God, I ruined the surprise.” She quickly put another finger on it lips and, with a wink, indicated to the audience not to tell anyone. “Psssst,” she said, before she and her colleague burst into laughter.

BBC presenter’s colleagues react to surprise party fail

Quamer was celebrated on the Internet for her faux pas. Her employer, BBC North West, posted the clip on for your niece!”

Other BBC colleagues also reacted to the mishap. BBC North West presenter Steve Saul commented “It gets funnier the more you watch it”. BBC South West journalist Alastair Monk wrote: “This is just great. At a time of great stress, just enjoy it.”

Only around two months ago there was a similarly strange incident with a BBC presenter in front of the cameras. Maryam Moshiri went viral in December when she held up her middle finger to the rolling camera just before her hosting began. Afterwards she apologized in a statement on X. While the director was counting down from ten, she acted as if she was also counting down. When she got to number one, she turned her finger over and didn’t realize that it was in the picture. “I’m sorry if I offended or upset anyone.”

Watch the video: Curious scene in the BBC lunchtime news: A countdown – as usual – starts the news at twelve o’clock. But when the countdown reaches zero, the audience looks at the presenter’s extended middle finger.
