Bayern Munich agreed with Maccabi Tel Aviv goalkeeper Daniel Peretz

Record champions Bayern Munich are said to have found what they were looking for in a new goalkeeper. According to consistent media reports, Bayern are in agreement with Daniel Peretz, who should initially act as number two behind Sven Ulreich.

The 23-year-old comes from Maccabi Tel Aviv and should have a contract in Munich until at least 2027. Around two million euros plus bonuses are under discussion as a transfer fee.

“We want to be competitive at a high level,” coach Thomas Tuchel said on Thursday about the goalkeeper question. With Ulreich, that’s the case, he emphasized, “but we can’t guarantee that with Ulle alone, so we’re trying to sign a goalkeeper.”

Manuel Neuer is expected to return to team training “in the next few weeks”. The operation that the 37-year-old underwent on July 30 to remove metal from his right lower leg “has a very positive effect,” said Tuchel. “The prognosis for Neuer’s re-entry has been significantly shortened as a result, the development is very positive, what I’ve seen is very impressive”.

After the search for a strong goalkeeper had turned out to be extremely difficult, Bayern had probably made a U-turn in the goalkeeper question and looked for a number two behind Ulreich.

Before that, big names had been traded. The Spaniard Kepa from Tuchel’s former club Chelsea was already in the word at Bayern, but preferred a move to Real Madrid after Thibaut Courtois’ cruciate ligament rupture. Most recently, Munich showed interest in ex-Bielefeld Stefan Ortega, number two in Champions League winners Manchester City. City star coach Pep Guardiola does not want to let the German-Spaniard go. David de Gea (most recently Manchester United), who is currently without a club, and Morocco’s World Cup star Bono (Seville FC) have also been linked to FC Bayern.

Bayern open the 60th Bundesliga season on Friday evening (8:30 p.m.) at Werder Bremen.
