Four candidates are applying to succeed Bavaria’s Evangelical Bishop Heinrich Bedford-Strohm. This was announced by the Evangelical Lutheran Church on Saturday. The election proposal was sent to the state synod – the church parliament of the Protestants – on Friday. The youngest of the candidates is Nina Lubomierski (47). The mother of two received her doctorate in 2006 from the Humboldt University in Berlin. For two years she has been the Dean of the Dean’s Office in Landshut, Lower Bavaria. Gabriele Hoerschmann (54), who is also a mother of two, is the director of Mission Eine Welt. It thus maintains intensive relationships with Lutheran partner churches in Africa, Asia and Latin America. As Associate Professor of Practical Theology, she lived in Hong Kong for over ten years. In addition, the regional bishop Christian Kopp (58) was proposed. The studied theology was dean in Nuremberg and before that, among other things, university chaplain. With his wife he has two children and grandchildren. The fourth candidate is Klaus Schlicker (56). As he also studied theology, he is dean in Windsbach in the district of Ansbach. Schlicker has four children. The term of office of the current Bishop Bedford-Strohm ends after almost twelve years on October 31, 2023.
