Bavaria’s SPD general secretary Tasdelen resigns after allegations

The Bavarian SPD general secretary Arif Tasdelen resigns. “For months I have been confronted with allegations and rumors about my communication within the party and with public prejudice,” said the Nuremberg member of the state parliament in a personal statement. This situation had become too stressful for him and his family. He informed the two state chairmen Ronja Endres and Florian von Brunn about his decision.

The 48-year-old Tasdelen has been a member of the state parliament since 2013 and has also been general secretary of the Bavarian SPD since spring 2021. Before Christmas, the news caused a stir that the Jusos had declared him an “undesirable” person. The accusation: Tasdelen behaved inappropriately towards female Juso members.

Tasdelen: “I want to help my party”

Tasdelen emphasized that he had received many encouraging letters and had conversations with friends and colleagues. Nevertheless, he decided to make his position as Secretary General and thus the main organizer of the election campaign available. “I want to help my party start this important state election year without distractions.”

When asked by BR, Brunn, the Bavarian SPD faction and state leader, said he understood and respected Tasdelen’s resignation. “And I thank him for his good work.”
