Bavaria’s first Minister of Science Wolfgang Wild died – Bavaria

The former Bavarian Minister for Science and Art, Wolfgang Wild, is dead. He died at the age of 92. “With Wolfgang Wild we are losing a real mastermind and trailblazer,” said Science Minister Markus Blume (CSU) on Wednesday. Wild was a renowned physicist and excellent scientific organizer, and the intensive cooperation between science and industry was one of his special concerns.

According to the ministry, the CSU politician was a member of the state government under Prime Ministers Franz-Josef Strauss and Max Streibl from 1986 to 1989. He was the first minister after the Ministry of Science was re-established and separated from the Ministry of Culture. As a nuclear physicist, he previously held professorships at the Free University of Berlin and the Technical University of Munich. From 1980 until he joined the cabinet, he was President of the Technical University of Munich.
