Bavarian state parliament elects Markus Söder as Prime Minister – Bavaria

Markus Söder is Bavarian Prime Minister again. With the votes of his CSU and those of the Free Voters, he secured his second term in office. The coalition has a solid majority with 122 of the 203 MPs, so the election was considered safe.

Söder had already won the majority in the first round of voting in 2018. In the secret vote, there were 110 yes votes, 89 no votes and three abstentions.

After the state parliament officially met for its constituent session for the first time on Monday and the Prime Minister has now been chosen, it is still unclear what the cabinet of the black and orange state government will look like. The Free Voters have already made their decision: party leader Hubert Aiwanger will remain Economics Minister, Thorsten Glauber will become Minister for the Environment, Anna Stolz will become Minister of Culture, Fabian Mehring will be given the Digital Ministry. The CSU still wants to announce who will move into the cabinet for them.
