Bavaria: Wolves and bears startle politics – Bavaria

Prime Minister Söder wants to present a regulation in April on how the shooting of wolves can be made easier. In this way, the state government is reacting to the growing concerns of local politicians and farmers. But the project faces high hurdles.

Now a bear has put its paws on Bavarian soil. The animal left tracks in the snow on the mountainous edge of the Upper Bavarian districts of Miesbach and Rosenheim at the weekend, as the State Office for the Environment (LfU) announced on Monday evening. Whether it is a male or female animal cannot be read from the so-called footprints, let alone that the bear could be clearly identified. But for the experts, the conclusion is obvious that it could be the bear that has been hanging around near the border in neighboring Tyrol for weeks, proven by its excrements and two recordings from wildlife cameras. On the Bavarian side, too, the additional predator seems to bother many – including in the ongoing discussion about the wolf.
