Investments are being made in the Bavarian autobahns: more than a billion euros are to be invested in road and bridge construction and renovation in 2022. In the north of the Free State, around 750 million euros are being planned for construction work, said the Northern Bavarian branch of the Autobahn GmbH of the federal government. For southern Bavaria, a spokesman assumed that the amount would be similar to that in 2021. That would be around 420 million euros.
Due to the “extensive changes” in the reform of the motorway administration, the Southern Bavaria branch was initially unable to name a fixed budget for the coming year. In some cases, the specific construction times for the work have not yet been set. Many processes were “not yet established” after the Autobahn GmbH started operating in January 2021, said a spokesman for the southern Bavaria branch.
On the other hand, it is clear that there will be many construction sites on the freeways in the Free State again in 2022. In most cases, the renovation of bridges and roadways is involved, but work is also being carried out on additional lanes on some routes. However, drivers must initially expect narrow lanes, speed limits, closed lanes and, as a result, traffic jams. An overview:

- Between February and November 2022, a bridge will be renewed between the Nürnberg-Nord and Behringersdorf exits.
- The Krondorf viaduct between the Neumarkt-Ost exit and Velburg will be renewed by 2025. Only one lane can be used in both directions, and a second lane, depending on the volume of traffic.
- At Velburg, a five-kilometer bridge is expected to be renewed by November 2022.
- The motorway between the Biebelried junction and the Fürth / Erlangen junction will be expanded to six lanes by the end of 2025.
- The six-lane expansion will also continue throughout the year between the Regensburg junction and the Rosenhof exit.
- Rest areas will be built from April 2022 to December 2023 at Berg in the direction of Nuremberg and at Pilsach in the direction of Regensburg.
- At Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz, the four-kilometer lane towards Passau will be renewed between June and August.
- Between the triangle Seligenstadt and Aschaffenburg-Ost, a parallel carriageway will be renewed in June in the direction of Nuremberg.
- In the direction of Nuremberg near Aschaffenburg, the asphalt surface will be renewed between August and probably September.
- Between the Helmstadt and Würzburg-Heidingsfeld exits, the asphalt surface in the direction of Nuremberg will be renewed in May and June.
- Between Stockstadt and Aschaffenburg and between Rohrbrunn and Marktheidenfeld, work on drainage will be carried out from March to May and September to November.

- Between the border with Baden-Württemberg and the Feuchtwangen / Crailsheim junction, the motorway will be expanded to six lanes by the end of 2025.
- A bridge at the Ansbach exit will be renewed by the end of 2023.
- The Unterrieden viaduct will be rebuilt between the Altdorf / Leinburg and Alfeld exits by December 2024.
- A bridge between Alfeld and Sulzbach-Rosenberg will be renewed from February to November.
- Between April and September, the six-lane expansion will be prepared between Neuendettelsau and the Schwabach-West exit.
- From May to July, the lane in the direction of Waidhaus will be renewed between the Sulzbach-Rosenberg and Amberg-West exits. Only one lane can then be used in both directions.

- A forest road overpass between Bad Brückenau and Bad Kissingen will be renewed by April.
- The Thulba viaduct between Bad Kissingen and Hammelburg will be replaced by a new building by the end of 2026.
- Between the Hammelburg and Wasserlosen, the road towards Würzburg will be renewed from mid-March to May.
- Between Wasserlosen and the Schweinfurt / Werneck junction, the road towards Fulda will be renewed in June and July. In the opposite direction, work is planned for September and October.
- The Werntal and Stettbach viaducts between the Schweinfurt / Werneck junction and the Gramschatzer Wald exit will be renewed by the end of 2023 and summer 2025, respectively.

- In the middle of the year, preparations for the six-lane expansion will begin between the Ulm-West exit and the Ulm / Elchingen junction.
- The roadway near Neubiberg is to be renewed in the spring.
- At Holzkirchen an old bridge will be demolished in mid-January, at Anger work is underway to build a makeshift bridge at the beginning of January.

- The Schwarzbach Bridge will be rebuilt between the Nürnberg-Ost junction and the Nürnberg / Feucht triangle by 2025.
- Between Allersberg and Hilpoltstein, the road towards Nuremberg will be renewed from July to November.
- The drainage between Hilpoltstein and Greding will be renewed from March to June.
- Between the exits Hof-West and Gefrees, the roadway will be renewed and a bridge will be renovated from April to September.
- From March to December, the roadway between Bad Berneck and the Bayreuth-Nord exit will be renewed and a bridge will be rehabilitated.
- A new bridge will be built at the Nuremberg cross from July 2022 to June 2024.
- The Nürnberg-Ost junction will be expanded until the end of 2024.
- The fundamental renovation of the motorway between Langenbruck and the Holledau triangle is to be completed in spring.

- The lane will be relocated between the Thurnau-Ost and Kulmbach / Neudrossenfeld exits, and the work will last until the end of 2023.

- Between February and December, the roadway and a bridge between Treuen and Reichenbach will be renewed.

- The motorway between the Moosburg-Nord and Landshut-West exits will be fundamentally renewed by 2023.

- From February to October, renovation work takes place between Pfreimd and Nabburg. Therefore, only one lane can be used in both directions, a second lane depending on the volume of traffic.
- At the Schwandorf-Süd exit, the lane in the direction of Hof will be renewed from June to September. For two weeks there is only one lane in the direction of the courtyard.
- A bridge between Wiesau and Windischeschenbach will be renovated from May to July.
- Preparations for the fundamental renovation are planned between the Saalhaupt triangle and the Regensburg-Süd exit.
- A temporary bridge will be built at the Reischenhart exit until spring.

- Work is underway between Malching, Kirchham and Pocking on the new four-lane motorway from Munich to Passau.

- Work on converting the Memmingen cross and building a high bridge there continues.
