In welcome groups, Ukrainian children and young people should be taken care of and learn some German. One can only guess what some went through. A morning at a school in Augsburg.

What some have been through here can be guessed from the pictures on the walls, on which the students introduce themselves. One drew flying bombs and marching soldiers, another a contaminated skull, a third a heart, half in the Ukrainian, half in the Russian flag. “We’re brothers,” he wrote. A student from the hard-fought Mariupol sits at the far right, staring straight ahead and hardly speaking a word.
