Bavaria: U18 state election with record turnout – Bavaria

The Bavarian Youth Ring achieved record participation in its symbolic U18 state election. “Around 60,000 children and young people under the age of 18 cast their votes in more than 600 polling stations throughout the Free State,” said the BJR in Munich on Saturday. This is the largest nationwide response to date to the U18 elections organized by the state youth associations before the federal, state and European elections.

According to the provisional results, the CSU won the U18 state election in Bavaria with 26.12 percent, the AfD received 14.99, the SPD 13.72, the Greens 13.23, the Free Voters 9.09, the FDP 5, 83, the Left 4.25 and the Animal Welfare Party 3.87 percent. Children and young people were able to cast their votes at polling stations across Bavaria from September 21st to 29th, regardless of age or nationality.

“The high voter turnout and the record at the polling stations in the U18 state election show: Young people want to be heard and they want to vote,” said BJR President Philipp Seitz. The Bavarian Youth Ring is the working group of 36 nationwide and 39 regionally or nationally active youth associations and 311 local youth groups in the Free State.
