In Bavaria, thousands of people took to the streets again at the weekend to demonstrate against the right. With the protest, people in many cities in the Free State directed themselves against right-wing extremism and set an example for a strong democracy. According to the police, around 6,500 people gathered in Schweinfurt in Lower Franconia on Saturday, and in Ingolstadt around 6,000 people gathered under the motto “Together against the right – for democratic diversity”. In Schwabach, Central Franconia, the police counted around 6,000 participants. According to the police, around 6,000 people also demonstrated in Hof in Upper Franconia and in Passau in Lower Bavaria. The organizers of the “Passau against the right” rally spoke of around 8,000 participants.
According to police, around 3,000 people gathered at a demonstration in Straubing, Lower Bavaria, on Saturday. Singer Hans-Jürgen Buchner from the band Haindling also performed at the meeting. In Memmingen, Swabia, around 3,300 people came together on Saturday for a demonstration under the motto “Never again is now”. Around 2,000 people took part in demonstrations in the cities of Sonthofen and Lindau. The protests were triggered by revelations by the Correctiv research center about a meeting of radical right-wingers on November 25th in Potsdam, in which AfD politicians as well as individual members of the CDU and the very conservative Values Union took part.
There were further rallies in Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz, among others, where around 1,500 people gathered on Saturday under the motto “Silence is no longer enough – become active against the right.” According to the police, up to 2,000 people took part in a demonstration in Regensburg under the motto “Against right-wing mobilization on Holocaust Remembrance Day”. After the official end of this demonstration, according to the police, around 300 people came together for a second meeting with the theme “Together against traffic light madness”. Participants of the first event demonstrated loudly against the second meeting. The move of the second demonstration was repeatedly blocked by groups of people, and the police sometimes had to break up the blockades by force. The police recorded several crimes during the two meetings, including two attacks on police officers, it said. Further rallies and demonstrations against the right were planned for Sunday in Dachau and Friedberg, among others.
