Inflation threatens to tear a hole of around half a billion euros in the budgets of the clinics in Bavaria. At the same time, more and more staff are absent due to Corona, operations are being postponed. Now, of all times, potential super-spreading events are just around the corner.

Manfred Wagner says he is not a friend of alarmism. But now it’s alarm time. “We don’t just have a corona problem. It’s much more than that,” warns the medical director at the Fürth Clinic. He sees Bavaria’s hospitals facing a supply crisis. And this is already happening at the beginning of the summer wave – and months before the infection rate could worsen in autumn. Retirement homes, rehabilitation clinics, on-call practices – there is an acute shortage of staff in all nursing areas in the region. And in the end, many patients would end up in the Fürth hospital.
