Bavaria: The most interesting films and series of the year – Bavaria

The year got off to an exciting start. Well, not exactly in life out there right now, but definitely from the point of view of film and series fans. Netflix opened in 2022 with Alpine High-gloss multi-part set “Fawn” about rich young Munich residents who show the locals in Kitzbühel where Barthel gets the cider and where the millionaire’s son gets the mulled wine and ecstasy.

And since Sky finally the second season of “The Passport” has let loose on the streaming people, no one can get down from the bulging sofa anyway. The ensemble around the Viennese theater stunner Nikolas Ofczarek plays too strong; The bone-hard thriller about a recent serial killer in the Bavarian-Austrian border area is just too captivating.

But that was just the beginning. The BR also has a lot planned for 2022, whether in the cinema or in the home cinema, most of those who have been hit by lockdown no longer distinguish exactly where they let the picture stories sprinkle them. In any case, the broadcaster recently presented its annual preview, and here too – in addition to the usual dominance of “Tatort” and other crime thrillers – the unbridled popularity of Bavarian-Austrian cooperation is back.

At the beginning of August, the eighth Eberhofer crime film adaptation “Guglhupfgeschwader” is due to hit the cinemas (director: Ed Herzog). In it, the village policeman penned by Rita Falk (Sebastian Bezzel) not only has to deal with a murder and brutal debt collectors, but also has to deal with the rumor that the young man everyone calls Lotto-Otto (Johannes Berzl) may be his own son.

News from Doris Dörrie, Bully Herbig and Volker Schlöndorff

Bezzel, who here again walks the alpine humor pass alongside his Viennese colleague Simon Schwarz, can also be seen in the TV film “Bis zum last Drop”, as the provincial mayor in a serious political thriller about the precious commodity of water ( Directed by Daniel Harrich).

“The White Kobold” by Marvin Kren also stands out from the TV program 2022, a cocaine-containing comedy in the Viennese art milieu, starring Frederick Lau, Maya Unger and Simon Steinhorst. The ORF and BR co-production “Alles finster” planned for autumn, a mini-series about the consequences of a Europe-wide blackout for a village (director: Michi Riebl), also arouses curiosity.

The Bavarian cinema year promises, as far as the pandemic allows, many interesting things – even without Guglhupf against the hunger for humor. The new films by Doris Dörrie (“Freibad”, probably in September), Bully Herbig (“A thousand lines”, October) and Sonja Heiss, which are based on the Joachim Meyerhoff film “When will it finally be like this again as it never was” (December).

The non-Munich resident Til Schweiger recently had something to do in Munich: “The best is yet to come” will be a remake of the French tragic comedy of the same name, authored by Maggie Peren, who in turn has strong ties to Munich.

The directorial debut of Saralisa Volm be played in cinemas. Your Upper Palatinate mystery thriller “The Forest Stands Silent” (novel based on and screenplay: Wolfram Fleischhauer) will soon have its world premiere at the Berlinale. Oscar winner Volker Schlöndorff, 82, is bringing “Der Waldmacher” to the cinema this year, a documentary about Nobel Prize winner Tony Rinaudo and his reforestation plans for Africa.

There is also a lot to come for series fans. So the BR for 2022 has the third season of “Hello Baby” promised, so four more episodes from the lives of the four love-hungry friends from Munich (screenplay: Felix Hellmann and Natalie Spinell, who also directs). The multi-part society comedy is eagerly awaited “Duke Park”. Here, too, four women are the focus (Heike Makatsch, Felicitas Woll, Antje Traue, Lisa Maria Potthof). Four women, a notorious Munich district and a lot of adabeis.

the exColorfulboss and high-society expert Patricia Riekel has contributed as a script consultant, so you can look forward to stories from the poison cupboard of the tabloids. The series, in which Heiner Lauterbach also plays, will be shown on RTL+, according to official information, in spring 2022. The television station’s streaming service (formerly TVNow) was recently noticed by prominent productions (“Sisi”, “Faking Hitler”). Also the rights to Marcus H. Rosenmüllers “New stories from Pumuckl” has secured RTL +. Shooting is scheduled to take place in Munich in the spring.

Outlook for 2022: cast and crew of "Herzogpark", a new Munich series that is scheduled to start in spring: Lisa Maria Potthoff, Heiner Lauterbach, Antje Traue, producer Yoko Higuchi-Zitzmann, Heike Makatsch, script consultant Patricia Riekel and Felicitas Woll (from left).

“Munich Match” (working title) is expected to start in September, a thriller drama series for Sky, produced by Daniel Brühl, among others. The miniseries takes place 50 years after the Munich Olympic attack and revolves around the question of whether history can repeat itself.

One could sum up flippantly, the year is going to be fat. “Bold and Bold”, as the charming Munich series is called, which has caused quite a stir in recent years. At some point this year, the second season will hopefully be shown on ZDFneo and in the media library.
