Bavaria: Stones thrown from trucks – charges for 26 attempted murders – Bavaria

After a series of stone throwing at moving cars in Swabia, the public prosecutor’s office has charged a truck driver with 26 counts of attempted murder. A spokesman for the Augsburg regional court reported on Thursday that a corresponding indictment had been received. Previously had the Augsburg General reported about it.

A 49-year-old from the Augsburg district is accused in the case. He worked for a company in Gersthofen near Augsburg and is said to have repeatedly thrown stones from the driver’s cab at other cars while driving his truck. Sometimes windshields were broken through and in individual cases people were injured.

The man was arrested in February after stones had been thrown repeatedly since 2022 on the motorway-like Federal Highway 2 between Augsburg and Donauwörth in northern Swabia. A total of 51 litters are listed in the indictment.

The police had expanded their controls along the highway for months in an attempt to catch the perpetrator. In addition to the officials from the local inspection in Gersthofen, the Augsburg police and the State Criminal Police Office in Munich were also involved in the search for the stone thrower. After the arrest, an arrest warrant was issued against the man. At the time it was said that the 49-year-old initially did not comment on the allegations.

The regional court spokesman did not provide any information about the suspected motives or the nationality of the suspect. The criminal chamber has not yet decided whether to admit the charges, so a date for a trial has not yet been set.

The Augsburg General reported that the investigators discovered the 49-year-old’s truck near the crime scene on various video recordings. In addition, the accused’s travel plans for his employer overlapped with the crime scenes.
