The CSU is looking with concern at the weak survey results two weeks before the state elections in Bavaria. A party conference should provide the impetus for a strong final spurt.

Two weeks before the state elections In Bavaria, CSU party leader Markus Söder has sworn his party base to the final spurt of the election campaign. At the CSU party conference in Munich, Söder emphasized the successes of the previous policies of the CSU-led state government in Bavaria. “Bavaria is at the top in Germany everywhere,” said the Prime Minister.

“Our country is in good hands thanks to the CSU,” said Söder. A clear victory for the CSU in the vote on October 8th would be an important turning point for Bavaria, but also a strong signal towards Berlin.

Söder sharply criticized the work of the Berlin traffic light coalition. “This federal government is probably the worst government Germany has ever had,” he said. “This is not partisan rhetoric.”

But Söder also targeted the Free Voters, with whom he wants to continue governing after the election. “It doesn’t matter who was a coalition partner in the past: in the end it always comes down to the CSU in Bavaria,” he emphasized.

In addition to Söder’s campaign speech, the new election of the entire party executive committee is scheduled to take place, including Söder. Two years ago he was confirmed in office with 87.6 percent. No personnel changes are foreseeable among the deputies. CDU leader Friedrich Merz is also expected to be a guest speaker in Munich in the early afternoon.
