Seven-year-old dies after knife attack in Regensburg

Two people are attacked in a hospital. A day later, a boy died from his injuries. The suspect is a 14-year-old. An extremist background cannot be ruled out.
A seven-year-old has died one day after an attack on two people in a Regensburg district hospital. He said he died of his injuries in a clinic on Friday evening Police on Saturday night. “The thoughts of the entire Upper Palatinate police are with the family.”
The seven-year-old and a 63-year-old suffered stab wounds in a hallway in the child and adolescent psychiatric facility on Thursday. A 14-year-old is considered a suspect. The investigators did not rule out an extremist background.
Adolescent admitted to psychiatric clinic
On Friday, the police announced that the Bavarian Central Office for Combating Extremism and Terrorism at the Munich Public Prosecutor’s Office had taken over the investigation into two cases of attempted murder. Because the young person may be incompetent, he was placed in a psychiatric clinic.
The 14-year-old had been known to the police since the beginning of the year. Among other things, he is said to have “worked intensively on the planning and execution of the most serious acts of violence” in relevant chat groups. At that point, however, he was not yet of criminal responsibility.
The newspapers of the Bavaria media group reported on Friday, citing the Regensburg public prosecutor’s office, that the teenager had planned an act of violence at a school in the Upper Palatinate. The authority itself could not initially be reached for comment.
According to police, the seven-year-old was initially “in an extremely critical condition” after the crime. The 63-year-old was also seriously injured and, according to police, his condition was stable on Friday. An employee of the clinic ultimately stopped the attack. He was injured in the hand in the attack, but has since been released from the hospital.
