At the beginning of December he did BR radical chats of Bavarian AfD politicians in public. Investigators have now searched two apartments. There is a suspicion that the accused prompted criminal acts.

After reports of radical statements by Bavarian AfD politicians in a Telegram chat, the police searched two apartments in Kulmbach and in the Upper Bavarian district of Miesbach. According to the Munich Public Prosecutor’s Office, the investigations are directed against two suspects. They are said to have spoken in the Telegram group, which consists of around 200 members, in December 2020 and thereby fulfilled the criminal offense of public incitement to criminal offenses.

The aim of the search last Friday was to secure evidence, in particular the communication of the chat group. A spokesman said whether the suspicion was confirmed and whether other people might have committed a criminal offense can only be said after the evidence seized, including cell phones, has been evaluated.

The “Frankenpost” had previously reported that the house of a Kulmbach AfD politician was searched. “They want to see whether what I’m accused of and what I’m denying can be found somewhere. But there is nothing to be found,” the newspaper quoted the man as saying.

Chats with extremist content

the BR had reported on the statements at the beginning of December and quoted some radical content from a closed Telegram group called “Alternative Nachrichtengruppe Bayern”. The terms coup, revolution and civil war are said to have been used there.

In the chat group, there were 16 of the 18 Bavarian state parliament and eleven of the twelve federal parliament members of the Free State. Ten out of 13 people from the AfD state executive elected in October are represented. The news covered the period from the end of 2017 to mid-2021. The roughly 200 members repeatedly exchanged messages hostile to Islam and xenophobia. For example, in the summer of 2018, a current European parliamentarian suggested to the AfD to put a pig’s head in front of a mosque. Experts spoke with a view to the content of extremism.
