Bavaria: New round in the dispute over the otter – Bavaria

For years, the pond keepers have been complaining that the strictly protected predators are eating their ponds empty. Minister of Agriculture Kaniber has now lowered the strict protection status. Nevertheless, it is unlikely that an otter will be shot down.

For years, the pond keepers in the Upper Palatinate and Lower Bavaria have been fighting for the state government to relax the strict protection of otters so that they can shoot down the predators more easily if they eat heaps of carp from their ponds. Now the time has come. For a few days, pond keepers have been able to remove conspicuous otters, as the technical jargon calls the shooting of the animals. The current contingent released for shooting in the Upper Palatinate and Lower Bavaria is 32 pieces. You can read about it on the homepage of the State Office for Agriculture (LfL). The other regulations are also published on it. So the pond keepers should be satisfied.
