Last Thursday he fled spectacularly from the district court of Regensburg. Police officers arrested him in France. His lawyers are now accusing the district court.

The convicted murderer who escaped from the district court in Regensburg has been caught. The 40-year-old was caught by investigators in France near the German border, the police said. Details will not be announced until tomorrow, Tuesday.

The fugitive Algerian and an accomplice attacked a lottery shop in Nuremberg in 2011 and killed the 76-year-old owner. In 2013 he was sentenced to life imprisonment and has been in prison in Straubing ever since. He had to answer to the Regensburg district court for resisting law enforcement officials in the prison.

Escape out the window

Last Thursday, he escaped through a window of a courtroom during a break in the hearing. According to the police, the man had been untied for a conversation with his defense attorney. However, the judge had only ordered the handcuffs to be removed for the main hearing. There was no judicial order to remove the shackles.

The spokesman said it was not possible to answer why the defendant was able to enter the lawyer’s office without being tied up. Until further notice, the room will only be accessible to lawyers and non-custodial clients.

The defender of the person who fled last week made allegations against those responsible at the district court. Lawyer Moritz Schmitt-Fricke said “Focus Online” that the possibility of meeting with clients was poorly solved there in two respects. On the one hand, the lawyer criticized that the room had a frosted glass pane that was difficult to see into, on the other hand he criticized the unlocked windows.
