Bavaria: More than 18,000 apprenticeship positions still vacant – Bavaria

Bavarian companies are desperately looking for trainees. “Currently, 18,483 training places are still vacant in Bavaria,” said the Federal Employment Agency (BA) on Wednesday. The willingness of the companies to provide training remains high, said the head of the regional directorate, Ralf Holtzwart, and emphasized: “Even after the official start of training, there is still the possibility of starting an apprenticeship.”

Eva Wohlfahrt, chairwoman of the DGB-Jugend Bayern, said that the number of training places “is showing a slight upswing again, but the number of training contracts concluded is still well below the pre-Corona level”. 1040 applicants had not found a training place. BA CEO Andrea Nahles said in Nuremberg: “Never since reunification have the chances of finding an apprenticeship been so good. However, the problems faced by companies have increased noticeably.”

At the end of September, 68,900 training positions were still open nationwide. Vacancies remained mainly in food, hotel and catering trades, construction and metal trades and drivers. A lack of qualifications, regional and professional imbalances made balancing on the training market significantly more difficult.

“So far this year, 46,256 young adults have started vocational training in Bavarian companies in industry, trade and services. That is an increase of 2.35 percent compared to the previous year,” said Hubert Schöffmann, education policy spokesman for the Bavarian Chamber of Industry and Commerce (BIHK ). In the trades, professions for the energy and mobility transition are particularly in demand among young people, said Harald Gerster from the working group of the Bavarian Chambers of Crafts. “With 24,533 new degrees as of September 30, the training balance is stable at the level of the previous year. Young people can now conclude an apprenticeship contract in November.” Labor Minister Ulrike Scharf (CSU) praised the companies’ willingness to provide training.
