Bavaria: more children in danger – more than 600 custody withdrawals – Bavaria

Beatings, kicks, burns: last year, the youth welfare offices saw the well-being of exactly 3,107 children and young people in Bavaria in such danger that family courts were called in. As the Bavarian State Office for Statistics announced on Wednesday in Fürth, 1,589 boys and 1,518 girls were affected – in 1,932 cases, parental custody was fully (638) or partially (1294) transferred to the youth welfare office or a third party.

There are not always indications of physical abuse, the well-being of the child is also endangered in the case of psychological and sexual violence or neglect. In 2021, the family courts took action in 2,706 cases – that was 14.8 percent fewer than in 2022. 2021 was an outlier downwards, and a spokeswoman was initially unable to say the reasons for the development. The figures for 2022 are similar to those in 2020 and before.
