To put it simply, the Free State has so far only funded routes on which trains run in regular public transport. Companies that, for example, travel on disused routes for tourism purposes usually have to finance themselves. As an exception, special funding from the Bavarian Corona investment program should now be available for them until the end of 2023. According to the ministry, feasibility studies or the renewal of tracks and platforms could be funded. However, it is unclear whether and how the program will continue after 2023; Among other things, the Pro Bahn passenger association has been demanding a concept from the Free State for years to promote tourist traffic and the associated expansion of the rail infrastructure.
