Bavaria: Greens demand hotspot rule for Free State – Bavaria

The Greens in the state parliament are calling on the state government to apply the hotspot rule in Bavaria, which is anchored in the new Federal Infection Protection Act. The law gives “the federal states the opportunity to take further protective measures”, which the Free State should “not refuse”, said the Green parliamentary group leader Katharina Schulze of the SZ and referred to the high number of cases in Bavaria. On Monday, 5136 beds were occupied by patients with corona infection – a good ten percent more than a week earlier. The situation in the intensive care units remained reasonably stable with 411 corona cases.

There is currently a transitional rule in Bavaria that allows certain protective measures to be maintained until April 2nd. According to the law, the Free State could then define regional hotspots, where certain restrictions would then continue to apply, such as the obligation to wear a mask when shopping and at school or the 3G rule in areas to be defined. However, the state parliament can only declare a region a hotspot if there is a concrete danger – for example if the clinics are at risk of being overloaded. According to the federal government, it is possible to declare an entire federal state a hotspot. Most recently, Health Minister Klaus Holetschek (CSU) said that the hotspot rule was “anything but practicable”.
