Bavaria distributes 30 million corona masks – Bavaria

Since the Corona crisis, more than 30 million of the protective masks stored in the central pandemic warehouse have already been distributed in Bavaria for further use. “As part of the rolling system, masks from the central pandemic warehouse have been given to the staff at the Bavarian educational institutions (schools and daycare centers), to the staff in old people’s and nursing homes and in a one-off campaign to people in need since the end of 2020,” said a spokesman by the Ministry of Health at the request of the German Press Agency.

The masks are distributed in Bavaria before they can no longer be used because the expiry date has been exceeded. This is to prevent them from having to be disposed of – unlike, for example, in the federal government. In view of the lack of masks at the beginning of the corona pandemic, the Federal Ministry of Health and the federal states had bought several billion protective masks. “In addition to the more than 30 million masks, around 850,000 masks and around 16 million protective gloves have been handed in before the end of the use date and can therefore be used sensibly instead of thermally recycled,” emphasized the spokesman.

The State Office for Health and Food Safety (LGL) has created so-called product catalogs with articles that are about to expire. These catalogs contain the exact designation of the goods to be delivered. In addition to the Bavarian clinics, state departments and social institutions were also offered corresponding articles.

Recently had the World citing information from the Federal Ministry of Health, reported that the federal government wants to have at least 755 million surgical and FFP2 masks with an expired use-by date burned. A large part of the other federal states are also planning to burn corona masks that are no longer usable or have already done so, according to a query by the World at the state health ministries.
