It was less than four months ago that the operators of the Isar 2 nuclear reactor reported: “The power plant is now fit for its final operating cycle.” That was in mid-October, and the plant in Essenbach near Landshut had just been fitted with new fuel elements. The last revision, the last major maintenance, before the nuclear power plant shuts down on December 31, 2022, forever. That was the plan. A plan B? There wasn’t. Site manager Carsten Müller said he had “a clear mission”: shut down first, then dismantle. Basta.
