Bavaria: dead fish after ammonia accident – authorities check connection – Bavaria

Numerous fish died in the Wolfach near Ortenburg in Lower Bavaria. The authorities are examining a possible connection with the ammonia leak in a company in Ortenburg (Passau district) last Tuesday, as a police spokesman said on Thursday. Around 100 smaller and several larger fish are affected. The police and the water management office took water samples and dead fish for investigation.

It cannot currently be ruled out that, in connection with the hazardous goods accident, bound ammonia in liquid form got into the stream via a pipe system, it said. The Passau criminal police are investigating. Eight people were injured in the ammonia leak in the Sammarei district. The police assumed that around 800 kilograms of ammonia escaped. The cause of the exit was initially unclear.
