A 51-year-old climber fell from a rock near Erbendorf (Tirschenreuth district) and was seriously injured. A rescue helicopter rescued the man and immediately took him to a hospital, the police said. He and his 49-year-old companion, both experienced climbers and mountaineers, had successfully climbed a granite massif on Saturday.
While abseiling, the 51-year-old fell for unknown reasons. He suffered very serious injuries to his head, back and pelvic area. The 49-year-old rushed to his aid and called the emergency doctor. The mountain rescue service took the man to a plateau from where the helicopter could take him away. The investigation into the accident has begun.
