Bavaria: care fraud in the millions – married couple and son accused – Bavaria

A couple and their son from Lower Franconia have been charged with illegally billing a nursing service for services worth millions. The 56-year-old, his 47-year-old wife and 26-year-old son had run an outpatient nursing service in Würzburg and Kitzingen, as the Bavarian Central Office for Combating Fraud and Corruption in the Healthcare System (ZKG) announced on Tuesday at the Nuremberg Public Prosecutor’s Office.

The authority accuses them of gang fraud in 1022 cases. According to the indictment, the damage to the health insurance companies was more than 4.7 million euros. The accused are said to have provided nursing services without the legally required so-called “responsible nursing specialist”. This made it possible to document services at one’s own discretion, to fake services that were not rendered and to reduce the quality of the services to a minimum.

According to the information, the couple initially worked alone, from 2018 the son is said to have been involved in the fraud. According to the authorities, some of the acts are already statute-barred. The damage of 4.7 million euros relates to the period from 2018 to 2022. The prosecution would like to collect the sum in the course of the proceedings and has registered mortgages on several of the accused’s properties. The woman has therefore partially admitted the allegations, the other two are silent. All three are in custody because of the risk of escaping and collusion.

The Würzburg public prosecutor’s office is investigating whether the three are also guilty of assault. This was not part of the procedure at the ZKG. The district court of Nuremberg-Fürth now has to decide on the charges.
