Bavaria: Bavaria and the Palatinate – Parallels to Russia and Ukraine – Bavaria

As oppressive as the war in Ukraine is, the forces that feed it are clearly evident there. Regardless, world history provides a surprising number of parallels to the Russian invasion. However, anyone who believes that such events do not affect little Bavaria at all is on the wrong track. Even a quick glance at historian Markus Meyer’s dissertation shows that the actions and arguments of the Russian autocrat Vladimir Putin are by no means to be seen in isolation. In this regard, it is interesting to take a look at the conflict that raged in the middle of the 19th century between the Kingdom of Bavaria and what was then the Palatinate region. Without wanting to equate Putin’s aggression with the reaction of the Bavarian monarchy at the time, it should be noted that their actions against members of the opposition and defectors followed a similar pattern to some extent.
