Mistreatment with electric shockers, cattle that were slaughtered without the prescribed anesthetic and bled to death in agony, and pigs that had their eyes removed while they were still alive: the allegations by the animal rights organization Soko Tierschutz against the slaughterhouse in Aschaffenburg in Lower Franconia are massive. And obviously the burden of proof is overwhelming. At the beginning of the week, the Soko Tierschutz sent the control authorities and the public prosecutor’s office in Aschaffenburg many hours of footage of battle scenes at the slaughterhouse from the past four weeks. A raid took place in the slaughterhouse on Wednesday night, several employees were prohibited from stunning and killing animals for slaughter, and the slaughterhouse was closed until further notice. The public prosecutor’s office has launched an extensive investigation.
