Hundreds of fish, crabs and mussels have died in a stream in the Swabian district of Donau-Ries. A 62-year-old farmer discovered the partially empty stream near Mönchsdeggingen on Saturday and reported it to the police, a spokeswoman said. According to the investigators, an unknown person led massive amounts of water out of the creek. The surviving animals were taken to other bodies of water. The police could not quantify the extent of the damage. It was also unclear how the water was drained from the creek. By law, withdrawals on such a scale are illegal and therefore punishable by law.
