Bavaria: 80 percent more anti-Semitic incidents documented – Bavaria

According to a documentation center, everyday anti-Semitism is increasing in Bavaria. The research and information center for anti-Semitism in Bavaria (RIAS Bayern) recorded 447 anti-Semitic incidents last year – around 80 percent more than in the previous year. “The incidents that are known to us are constantly increasing,” said RIAS director Annette Seidel-Arpacı at the presentation of the annual balance sheet on Monday in Munich. Anti-Semitism often occurs at corona protests, anti-Israel gatherings and in communications that are disseminated on the Internet.

According to the report, the relativization of the Holocaust or the mockery of the victims of Nazi terror were observed particularly frequently. The pandemic and the protest against government measures against Corona also played a major role here. “Particularly high-profile events were the wearing of ‘Jewish stars’, often with the inscription ‘Unvaccinated’,” says the annual report.

The development determined by RIAS corresponds to the figures from the police. This registered an increase in anti-Semitic crimes from 353 to 510 last year, as has already been announced. However, RIAS also documents cases that are not criminal offenses, independently of the police and the public prosecutor’s office.
