After an alleged smuggling of 18 people in the district of Rottal-Inn, a 47-year-old suspect was arrested. Officials tried to check his car at the border crossing on Friday morning, the federal police said on Monday. Instead of stopping, the 47-year-old accelerated and drove away. According to the information, he then stopped near Pfarrkirchen and continued on foot. He was arrested shortly afterwards.
There were 18 uninjured people in the vehicle, including eight children between the ages of one and twelve, it was said. The 47-year-old had to be placed in a correctional facility by order of a judge. He is being investigated for smuggling in foreigners under life-threatening circumstances. Those smuggled received reports of illegal entry and were handed over to the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees.
