Bautzner photographer Evelyn Richter dies

Her main work is gathered in the Evelyn Richter archive in the Museum of Fine Arts in Leipzig, which is directed by Jeannette Stoschek. She saw for herself how Richter worked when she accompanied the photographer to Moscow: The two women were sitting across from each other in the metro when Richter started playing around with her Leica. “I thought: No, please don’t, because photography was forbidden everywhere in the metro.” But Richter took photos so quickly and quietly that nobody noticed. “She only presses the shutter button once or twice. It’s fascinating – and the pictures are always good aesthetically and formally.”
