In Bautzen, a pastor from Ukraine was attacked by a Russian on the street. A video shows the incident.

There was an attack on a Ukrainian pastor in the Saxon town of Bautzen – in broad daylight and on the street. Sergej Kosiak was attacked by a 69-year-old Russian with a wheel wrench. The portal “Tag24” and the “Sächsische Zeitung” initially reported on it. The Görlitz police department confirmed that it was investigating a “69-year-old Russian citizen”.

Kosiak posted video of the incident, apparently captured by his car’s dashcam, on his Facebook page, as well as a longer version on YouTube. It shows the attacker getting out of his car at a red light, taking a lug wrench from the trunk, and charging at Kosiak with it. The pastor manages to push the perpetrator back and push him into his car. Then passers-by intervene.

Bautzen: Pastor takes care of Ukrainian refugees

The Russian may have been bothered by the Ukrainian flags attached to Kosiak’s car. The pastor has been commuting between Ukraine and Germany for several years. In Bautzen, he takes care of the reception and care of refugees who have fled the war in Ukraine. The attack on his person shakes him: “I brought many people to Germany so that they are safe here. Now something like this is happening here too, we don’t feel protected like that,” Kosiak told “Tag24”.

He himself comes from Donetsk, where pro-Russian armed militias have been fighting the Ukrainian army since 2014, and came to Germany in 2018. After the attack, he immediately reported the man to the police: “So that he will be punished and others will not continue like this.” The police are now looking for witnesses who saw the incident at the traffic light. “In particular, the four mediators, one woman and three men, are asked to report to the police,” said a police spokeswoman for the “Sächsische Zeitung”.

Attack on Ukrainian clergy also in Hamburg

At the weekend there was also an attack on a pastor of a Catholic-Ukrainian parish in Hamburg. A drunk Russian rang his doorbell, assaulted him and tried to break into his house. The police were able to arrest the attacker and are now investigating the cause of bodily harm. The state security was also turned on.
