The Pacific Whale Watch Association released footage of the turmoil.
The humpback whales, named Hydra and Reaper, fight with the estimated 15 orcas for around three hours – before they finally make off.
Hydra is sighted again a few days later with minor injuries.
Erin Johns Gless, executive director of the Pacific Whale Watch Association, told CNN that humpback whales have been observed disrupting killer whales in the region on several occasions in recent years.
Nevertheless, an argument like that in this video is a rarity.
Researchers suspect that the two species could clash more frequently in the future due to growing populations.
