“Battle of the Reality Stars” presenter Cathy Hummels reveals details about the new season and tells of a moment of shock after the shoot.

The third season “Battle of the Reality Stars” is in the starting blocks: From April 13 (every Wednesday at 8:15 p.m., too via RTL+) in the RTLzwei show, a group of celebrities will again live together in a sala on a Thai beach for several weeks and fight for 50,000 euros in various games. Cathy Hummels (34) will again lead the stars through the “hour of truth” and accompany the selection of candidates. “We have new games and a lot of twists again. The show is just addictive like season one and two,” says the presenter in an interview with the news agency spot on news about the broadcast of the new episodes. One candidate particularly stands out in the new season.

“Women are often underestimated”

“Ronald Schill is very polarizing, we suspected that in advance. I had a different picture of other participants and was then surprised,” says Hummels. As in real life, there are a wide variety of characters on the show, so “one stands out more than the other. But women are often underestimated, and mostly by the male sex”.

In the sala, the celebrities have to go about their everyday lives together, which regularly leads to quarrels. Hummels reveals that living in a confined space would not be for her personally. As a zodiac sign, she is Aquarius and therefore loves freedom. “I could do that for a short time, but at some point it would be too much for me. I need my space and I need to be able to withdraw. I like to be alone.” She likes to use the time for herself for sports, series, audio books or a walk with her dog.

Moment of shock in Thailand

Filming took place again in Thailand. “I had a beautiful house right on the beach and the weather was a dream,” enthuses the presenter about the weeks of shooting. “I love Thailand and always feel at home there, the people are so warm and loving and very Buddhist. They are very keen to make you happy. And I love the healthy food.”

The presenter was able to enjoy the shoot in Thailand, but at the end of the trip she also had to experience a moment of shock: on her last evening, Hummels was robbed and beaten up on the beach. The perpetrator hit her several times. “Physically, it took me a while to recover. But now I’m fine, I’ve digested the shock,” says Hummels. “I was just unlucky at the moment, it could have happened to anyone and now I’m grateful that I’m still here.” She tries to let go of what she has experienced and to concentrate on making sure she is fine. “But I’ll never forget it, and that’s a good thing. In the future I’ll be even more careful and careful.”

Due to the filming in January, the presenter missed her son’s birthday, and also spent her own in Thailand. “Of course you’re sad, but that’s my job and I was very happy to be back as a presenter,” the 34-year-old looks back. “I made the best of it and Ludwig had two birthdays this year. He thought it was great.” And what has changed with your son since his birthday? “The most amazing thing is that at the age of four he understands everything. You can no longer just say things and think that the child is not listening,” explains Hummels with a laugh.

“Beauty comes in all shapes and sizes”

The 34-year-old has a photo for her own birthday at Instagram posted, on which she is wearing nothing but black bikini bottoms, a large necklace and two delicate bracelets. “I accepted myself as I am,” explains Hummels about the courageous picture. “It’s important to me to be a role model in this regard. People often say to me: You’re far too thin. Who has the right to define that?” As long as you are healthy and feel good, “you can look whatever you want,” emphasizes the presenter, who campaigns against body shaming. “Beauty comes in all shapes and sizes. It’s just not okay for a society to define what’s beautiful and what’s not beautiful and most importantly, what’s normal.”

Overall, she currently has the feeling that the Instagram world is even more extreme. “I have never experienced it so bad and difficult. But we are currently in an exceptional situation worldwide and people no longer know what to do with themselves. I remain true to my account and try as best I can to spread optimism and stay with myself.” Entertainment formats such as “Battle of the Reality Stars” played an important role during this difficult time. “It’s perfectly fine to distract yourself, I do that too,” says Hummels. “That’s why I’m far from naive or superficial, I read and listen to the news every day. But being constantly dragged down and worrying about everything is very damaging to the soul.” It is very important to her to enjoy life and do things that she enjoys. “The world situation has taught us that tomorrow everything can be different.”
