Bastian Schweinsteiger will also act as an expert for ARD at the 2024 European Football Championship in Germany.
After the World Cup in Qatar is before the European Football Championship in Germany – and at least for this period of time, the ARD can continue to build on the expertise of ex-national player Bastian Schweinsteiger (38). Both parties will continue the cooperation until 2024, as has now been announced in a press release.
Schweinsteiger took office as an ARD expert in the summer of 2020. However, his start can be described as rocky: the following year, he was accused of surreptitious advertising during a game. Schweinsteiger said at the time, “I’m sorry that his social media activities during the half-time break of the broadcast of the England-Ukraine quarter-final game gave the first impression that he was mixing his work as an ARD expert with advertising for sponsors. This was not what he intended.”
On this basis, both sides continued their contractually agreed cooperation, which initially applied from 2020 to the end of 2022. Since then, Schweinsteiger has won over broadcasters and audiences alike. He has shown “that he is not only an entertaining conversational partner, but is also an excellent analyst. At the same time, he also dares to name and classify critical topics – he showed that clearly during the World Cup. It is therefore for It is a great pleasure for us that we can go with him as an expert in the upcoming live football games with the highlight of EURO 2024 in our own country,” says ARD sports coordinator Axel Balkausky.
All eyes on the home EM
Schweinsteiger looks forward to the next two years with zest for action. “I am very pleased that we are continuing the successful cooperation beyond the home EM 2024. As a sports show team, we always aim to develop further in order to offer the viewers the best entertainment and information.”
The upcoming European Men’s Championship will take place from June 14 to July 14, 2024. The opening game will take place in Munich’s Allianz Arena, and the final will take place in the Olympic Stadium in Berlin.
