After winning gold at the World Cup, national basketball coach Herbert received an offer from France and wanted to train a team from the Euroleague at the same time. The association said no. Herbert is hoping for a new chance.

Basketball national coach Gordon Herbert is considering a second job as a club coach after the Olympic Games. Herbert said he had already reached a verbal agreement with the French Euroleague club Asvel Lyon-Villeurbanne in the fall.

But the German Basketball Federation (DBB) spoke out against a deal. “I respect the association’s attitude. But maybe after the games in Paris there will be the opportunity to train a club at the same time,” Herbert told “Sport Bild”.

His team, led by captain Dennis Schröder, is considered one of the medal contenders at the Olympic tournament (July 27 to August 11) in Paris and Lille. It is still unclear who will play for Germany next summer. “The world champions obviously have an advantage. But take Nick Weiler-Babb, for example. He wasn’t there in Asia because he was injured. I have to see what it looks like with him. Or Leon scratch, he would have deserved it, to be in the World Cup squad,” said Herbert.
