Rodrigo Pastore has been head coach in Chemnitz for nine years. Before the possible triumph in the European Cup, the club is already thinking about long-term prospects with the coach.

Basketball surprise team Niners Chemnitz wants to continue with a successful coach in the long term Rodrigo Pastore work. Managing director Steffen Herhold told the German Press Agency before the European Cup final this week.

“Rodrigo Pastore is the main architect of this project and how it developed. He pushed a lot of things forward in a process-oriented manner, it was a continuous development. We are building on that, we want to continue that. Why not another nine years?” said Herhold.

Pastore has been in office in Chemnitz since 2015 and led the club first to the Bundesliga and then to the European Cup. The final first leg of the Fiba Europe Cup against Bahcesehir Koleji from Turkey is on Wednesday (7 p.m./FIBA on YouTube).

A title win would be crucial for the Niners. “That would be great for the club, a real highlight for the city. That would be burned into the collective memory. That’s a huge achievement,” said Herhold before the two games. Chemnitz is not only playing well internationally this season, but also in the Bundesliga. A few weeks before the start of the playoffs, the Saxons are currently second, only behind cup winners FC Bayern Munich.
