Despite the 2-0 deficit in the final series against Alba Berlin, Bayern Honorary President Uli Hoeneß has not yet completely written off the championship for Munich’s basketball players.

“Of course it will be extremely difficult now. But you know I’m a permanent optimist,” said Hoeneß in an interview with “Münchner Merkur” and “tz”. He was curious to see whether the team, despite all the personnel problems, could once again mobilize all their strength. “Of course, if they manage to win the third game, then everything would be open again. I’m very excited,” said Hoeneß.

Bayern are guests at Alba Berlin this Friday (7 p.m./Sport1 and Magentasport). The Berliners dominated the first two games. With another win, Alba could already perfect the third championship title in a row in the sold-out Mercedes Benz Arena with 14,500 spectators.

“They will throw everything in again. It will certainly not be a nice game and very physical, »said Berlin international Johannes Thiemann. “And they will try by all means to get us out of our game. We have to counter that, but we managed to do that very well in the first two games.”

Should Alba become champion, “then they will be right,” said Hoeneß. Nevertheless, the season was successful for Bayern. “The elimination in the cup was a bit disappointing, but the Euroleague with another playoff participation was outstanding for us,” said Hoeneß.

For the future, he relies above all on the new hall and the resulting increase in marketing revenues. “Some top clubs in Europe have practically two equal teams. We don’t have that in yet. But that will be different once we have the new hall, »said Hoeneß.
