Basic child welfare is in danger of failing. The role that the responsible minister has in this disaster is obvious. Which is tragic for the coalition – but even more so for poor children.
When the Greens needed a new family minister in spring 2022 because the first attempt with Anne Spiegel had failed spectacularly, one thing was clear: the second attempt had to be successful. The choice then fell on Lisa Paus, which was not implausible. As a financial politician, she seemed suitable to implement the Greens’ central family and social policy project: basic child welfare. She also helped develop the green concept for it.
