Start of shooting for thriller series “The Therapy”

The first Amazon series based on a bestseller by Sebastian Fitzek is in the works. It is based on his debut novel “The Therapy”.
Last year, Prime Video Germany announced a far-reaching cooperation with Sebastian Fitzek (50) and Ziegler Film. Now the first adaptation of one of the best-selling author’s works is officially in the works. The serial adaptation of “The Therapy”, Fitzek’s debut novel from 2006, is now being shot on the North Sea islands of Föhr and Amrum as well as in and around Berlin.
The psychological thriller series will consist of six episodes and will be shown exclusively via Amazon Prime Video in over 240 countries in the coming year. The main roles in “The Therapy” include Stephan Kampwirth (55), the up-and-coming actress Helena Zengel (13, “News from the World”), who is already well-known in Hollywood, as well as Emma Bading (24), Axel Milberg (65) and Trystan Pütter (41 ).
That’s what “The Therapy” is about
From one day to the next, the 12-year-old daughter Josy (Zengel) of the psychiatrist Viktor Larenz (Kampwirth) disappears without a trace. The police are groping in the dark without witnesses or clues, the mystery of the missing Josy seems unsolvable. Two years pass after the loss. The grieving father has now retired to a remote holiday home.
One day, a young woman named Anna (Bading) stands up at his door and tells Viktor about delusions involving the disappearance of a little girl. In the faint hope of finding new clues about his daughter’s whereabouts, he and Anna begin therapy sessions. Gradually, Viktor brings a cruel truth to light.
The novel “The Therapy” has sold around 14 million copies to date and made Fitzek famous. He is all the more pleased that the story is now appearing as a series. In a statement on the Amazon deal in mid-2021, he said: “As the work that helped me break through as an author, my first novel has a very special place in my heart.”
