This object has rarity value: At “Bares für Rares” there was a mirror up for auction that was supposed to advertise the video cassettes for “Star Wars”. One trader was particularly keen.

The mirror hung on Detlef Schwarz’s wall for more than 30 years: “At some point something new has to go,” says the 63-year-old pensioner from Viersen. So he brings him to “Bares for Rares”.

But it is a very special mirror: It is a promotional item for the film “Star Wars: Return of the Jedi”. A legendary film saga, for which neither Horst Lichter nor expert Sven Deutschmanek have much time: “I have no clue,” admits Lichter.

“Bares for Rares”: “A shaving mirror for Jedi Knights”

Der Spiegel dates from 1986 and was intended for video stores to use it to promote the release of the VHS version of the film that was released in theaters in 1983. However, these are loans – which is why the present mirror is a rarity. Black would like 100 euros for it – but Deutschmanek corrects the estimated value upwards: He thinks 150 to 200 euros is possible.

In the dealer’s room, David Suppes immediately recognizes what the object is about and is immediately enthusiastic. “A shaving mirror for Jedi Knights,” comments Daniel Meyer. Wolfgang Pauritsch starts with 30 euros, but Meyer makes the clear announcement that he wants to buy the mirror and offers 100 euros in the next step. At 150 euros, Meyer outdid his last competitor with soups. He just says, “May the force be with you.”

It’s not the only “Star Wars” saying this afternoon: “There you can see what the dark force is capable of,” Meyer quotes a sentence that the Emperor says to Luke Skywalker. Steve Mandel, who by his own admission has nothing to do with the whole saga, at least contributes this: “I am your father.”

Meanwhile, Detlef Schwarz happily leaves with his 150 euros and is now planning to squander the money with his wife.
