He probably didn’t know exactly what the work of art was worth: salesman Rolf Isenmann brought an erotic sculpture to “Bares für Rares” – and thus triggered a bidding war.

“This is a very erotic sculpture”, Horst Lichter exclaims when looking at the object that Rolf Isenmann brought to “Bares für Rares”. It is a movable sculpture that the 75-year-old bought from an architect friend around 30 years ago. He was friends with the creator of the work.

As the expert Colmar Schulte-Goltz explains, it is the Polish sculptor Jan Sliwka. The exceptionally heavy work of art is made of brass, the art historian dates it to the 80s of the 20th century.

Isenmann is extremely modest when it comes to his asking price: he introduces himself at 400 euros. Schulte-Goltz corrected the amount significantly upwards and estimates the property at 2,400 to 2,800 euros. “The price was a big surprise for me,” commented the seller dryly on the expertise.

Another bidding battle for “Bares for Rares”

Things then go even better in the dealership: There the work of art is met with great enthusiasm: “You brought something nice with you,” calls out Walter “Waldi” Lehnertz to the seller. The bids are skyrocketing accordingly. From 150 to 1100 euros. “For me, 1000 was actually the pain threshold,” groans Waldi, and gets out of the bidding war.

It comes to a duel between Susanne Steiger and Wolfgang Pauritsch, who drive the price up together – much to the delight of salesman Rolf Isenmann. They soon leave the maximum estimate of 2800 euros behind. Only at 3500 euros does Pauritsch give up: “Now I’m getting out. Sell to our Susanne.” The 39-year-old then leafed through 35 fresh 100-euro bills on the table – a sight that you don’t see every day. In return, she can take the plastic home with her.

The other dealers welcome you to this purchase: “No matter where you put it, it always looks great.”
