An old painting is for sale at “Bares for Rares”. The owners want 400 euros – and have no idea that it’s worth a small fortune.

Expert Albert Maier and moderator Horst Lichter are enthusiastic. “It’s very impressive,” raves Lichter about the painting that Elisabeth Jansen-Aust and Alfred Jaust from Monheim am Rhein brought to “Bares for Rares”. “My sister received this painting as a gift from an older lady,” explains Jaust on the ZDF junk show. Since she has no space for it, she can’t do anything with it. The sellers still have no idea. how valuable her picture is.

“We are dealing here with a great master of baroque painting,” says “Bares for Rares” expert Maier. However, the painting is not signed, so he can only attribute it. But it was clearly by Philipp Peter Roos, a 17th-century artist also known as Rosa da Tivoli. His animal and herd pictures are particularly in demand, such as the herd of cattle shown here. “The picture is absolutely authentic from the 17th century,” explains Maier. So it is over 300 years old. A small sensation.

“Bares for Rares” expert makes it exciting

The Jaust couple would like 400 euros for the painting. Albert Maier can only smile. “His pictures are exhibited and traded throughout Europe,” says the expert. His price estimate is therefore significantly higher. “Listen carefully,” he makes it exciting: “4500 to 4500 euros.” The sellers are speechless. They would not have expected twelve times as much. But what are retailers willing to pay?

“An old master,” says Julian Schmitz-Avila appreciatively. Fabian Kahl also recognizes the painter immediately. “He always painted scenes like this, sometimes with fewer, sometimes with more sheep.” He starts with a bid of 1500 euros, but Schmitz-Avila outbids him immediately. 1700, 1800, 2000, 2100, 2200 euros – the price increases in small steps. Then Kahl offers 3500 euros. But this time Schmitz-Avila follows suit. Only ei 4050 euros gets Kahl out. “Then it’s supposed to be like that.” The painting goes to Bad Breisig.

“We are very happy,” says the Jaust couple. You received ten times the price you wanted. “That will improve the travel fund.”
