A set-up zoo from 1900 delights “Bares für Rares” presenter Horst Lichter. The object is also generating interest in the dealership – much to the delight of the seller.

“I could really get excited about that”: At the sight of the Aufstellspiel-Zoo, presenter Horst Lichter raved about. Jens Hoffmann brought it with him from Trittau, east of Hamburg.

Above all, he is curious about what the object is exactly. He found it while cleaning up his deceased aunt’s villa. “I have no clue what that is.” Therefore, he has no asking price.

Sven Deutschmanek explains: It is a constellation game. They had their wedding in the middle of the 19th to the beginning of the 20th century. The game presented here must have been made around 1900, according to the expert, who recognizes this from people’s clothing.

Like moderator Lichter, he can hardly hide his enthusiasm: “It is one of the best that I have ever seen. In the large number and in the state of preservation.” Deutschmanek also praises the extensive zoo with many animals, a wading bird house, bear and monkey house and a tapir house. Around 100 animals and people, plus around 20 buildings and trees. “Perfect, Horst!” He exclaims.

In view of the enthusiasm, the seller’s price request seems more than modest: “If we get 100 euros for it, then we would be satisfied,” says Hoffmann.

Sven Deutschmanek corrects that clearly upwards: “I’m here at 1500 to 2000 euros.” “Oha”, the guest from Northern Germany exclaims.

In the dealer’s room, you first puzzle out what exactly the game is supposed to represent, but then you agree on a zoo. Christian Vechtel starts with 500 euros, Roman Runkel holds against it. The two drive the price in the bidder duel in the four-digit range.

In the end, Vechtel has the last word at 1150 euros. This means that the seller Hoffmann receives over 1,000 euros more than had actually been hoped for. “Now two are really satisfied,” says Runkel of the deal. Nobody wants to contradict that.
