Barca president Joan Laporta remains committed to Super League plans. He also thinks the championship is absolutely realistic.

Joan Laporta still believes in the future of a European Super League. In an interview with the TV station TV3 the Barca president announces that he wants to push the plans further. The 59-year-old also commented on the championship race in Spain.

“We are promoting the project with Florentino Perez (President of Real Madrid, editor’s note), with whom I talk a lot,” said the FC Barcelona president. Laporta cannot understand the criticism many fans have of the Super League plans.

Laporta: “Will win the championship”

He wanted to “save European football,” he said – and at the same time criticized Manchester City and Paris-Saint Germain. “We cannot allow European football to be in the hands of states that are not part of the European Union. It is clear that City and PSG have a money machine and we are fighting against that,” stressed Laporta.

The Barca boss revealed that not only the Catalans, Real Madrid and Juventus Turin are supporters of the project. Other clubs are behind the plans, but did not (yet) want to comment publicly.

The 59-year-old also spoke about the end of the season. Laporta does not want to write off the Spanish championship, in which the Catalans are currently (with two games fewer) 15 points behind leaders Real Madrid: “I am convinced that we can win it. More than that, we will win it. In In the last half of the season we have become very strong. With a team that is working at full speed. With a coach who has clear ideas and pushes us to play our authentic football. We have regained our essence.”
