Barça continues in Cadiz despite a heart attack in the stands

Despite the medical incident in the stands which interrupted the end of the match for a long time, FC Barcelona dominated Cadiz 4-0 on Saturday for the 5th day of La Liga and temporarily took first place in the standings ahead of Real Madrid, who received Mallorca on Sunday (2:00 p.m.).

The Catalans opened the scoring on the return from the locker room thanks to Frenkie De Jong, present in the right place to push into the cages a shot deflected by goalkeeper Jeremias Ledesma (55th).

An eleven reworked by Xavi

The inevitable Robert Lewandowski then doubled the bet in the 65th, when De Jong took a shot that was still stopped by the goalkeeper, before offering the third goal on a plateau to Ansu Fati (86th).

In stoppage time, Ousmane Dembélé, who entered in 57th in place of Ferran Torres, sealed the success with a hook concluded by a shot deflected into his own goal by the opposing goalkeeper (90th + 2).

The game was interrupted about thirty minutes in the second period due to a serious medical incident in the stands. An AFP photographer present at the stadium noted that a supporter had suffered a heart attack before being evacuated. A cameraman responsible for filming the meeting lost consciousness in the process.

Previously, the Argentinian goalkeeper of Cadiz, Jeremias Ledesma, had been seen running a defibrillator towards the stand to rescue the victim. Blaugrana defender Ronald Araujo began to pray on the lawn. The match resumed at 9:05 p.m. and was able to end peacefully.

The Cadiz club confirmed in the evening that a spectator had suffered cardiac arrest in the stands.

“One of the medical teams came to the victim in the stands with a defibrillator, to start resuscitation. At the same time, FC Barcelona offered a second defibrillator if needed, which was carried to the incident area by the players themselves. The resuscitation was positive after a few minutes, and the supporter was transferred to the Puerta del Mar hospital, where he remains under observation”, specified the management of the club in a press release.

This incident inevitably overshadowed the meeting, during which Xavi was able to offer his first minutes to his latest recruits Hector Bellerin (holder) and Marcos Alonso (entered in 78th in place of Alex Baldé).

The race of the Cadiz goalkeeper with a defibrillator

A little numb in the first period, the initial eleven, upset by nine changes, even got scared on a few counterattacks from the Andalusians. But the entry into play of Pedri, Ousmane Dembélé and Robert Lewandowski in the 57th tipped the match into the hands of the Catalans.

With this success tainted by the medical emergency, however, the Catalans maintain their momentum of four consecutive victories and put the pressure on Real, who will have to win against Mallorca on Sunday to regain the lead.

And before his highly anticipated return to Bavaria on Tuesday night in the Champions League, Polish goleador ‘Lewy’ extended his incredible scoring streak, with a ninth goal in six matches since arriving in Catalonia this summer.
