Production designer Sarah Greenwood told Architectural Digest magazine a year ago after filming: “The world was running out of pink.” Because such large quantities of Barbie paint were needed to paint the film set that there are said to have been delivery bottlenecks.

As early as 1957 – and thus two years before the first Barbie doll came onto the market – Kay Thompson sang in the musical “Ein sweeter Fratz” (The Pink Mannequin): “Red is dead, blue is through, green is obscene and Brown is taboo.” In the film, the singer embodies the editor-in-chief of a fashion magazine, who sees pink as a change in the female attitude to life and the feminine image of women. Her words were 66 years ago: “But tell her if she’s gotta think, think pink!” (Eng.: “But tell her: If she has to think, she should think pink”) True to the motto: self-confident, independent women wear pink.
